This is the sad story of how poor Gill Bates got done by unscrupulous entrepreneur Robert Michaelson.
You see, Gill had spent many years slaving away over a hot stove, and lo and behold she got the wonderful idea to go and build doors for a lucrative living.
It was she who brought us Accordion Doors, Sliding Doors, Corinthian Doors, Back Doors, and many more.
But onto the scene stole the villain.
Robert decided he was going to market Boors' Spiral Doors and French Doors.
Gill managed to get an injunction in the French court system to prevent that from happening, and her dear friends in the other European Community countries jumped in for support, and one of the judges wrote that Robert would be in dead trouble if any private person in the EEC even so much looked at another sort of door that Gill hadn't crafted lovingly.
Poor Gill. :(
Robert decided to change his product's name to sound more like another building product - the window !!!
So Boors' Doors became Boors' Spiral Windows, and French Doors became French Windows.
Good news. Gill had sewn up the patents so well on doors, it seems, even though they are something that every building has. But she hadn't thought of this dastardly attack. So it looks like she is going to go broke, because someone came up with a product that worked as well.
You might even say, taking a word from the building industry, that Robert had "screwed" Gill. Really, I do think it's time that the Thought Police should be called in on this job.
In fact, there are those who say that the hinges on Robert's doors open and close more reliably. But how can that be? Gill has so many patents about different bits of the doors, that you would have to wonder if anyone could possibly improve on her design.
Robert's apparently are better.
